Hope Enables Perseverance
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” - Romans 5:3-5
Over the last two days, we have looked at the reasons we can have godly hope. That is not just a hope that is wishful thinking but a hope that we can hold on to and believe in. Godly hope not only anchors our lives and gives us access to divine help, but it also enables us to persevere.
Romans 5:3-5 says, “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Let’s face it, it is hard to persevere when you do not know how things will turn out. When you have nothing to believe in, it is easy to just give up and give in. But when you have a godly hope, a hope that believes better is ahead, a hope that knows He is on your side and He will work things in your favor, you can persevere because the best is still yet to come.
I don’t know what you are going through or how long you have been going through it. You could be dealing with the same struggle for weeks, months, or even years by now. And maybe there is no end in sight.
But I promise when God is in control, you still have every reason to wait with hope. Keep persevering and keep holding on. The hope you are afraid of having will not let you down because God will never let you down. He will deliver you, just as He promised!
