The Peace of God
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
Did you know you can have peace in the middle of a storm in your life? That is right. As believers, we can access a “peace that surpasses all understanding.” That peace can replace the anxiety that so many people experience when life’s circumstances aren’t going the way we hoped or planned.
Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Over the last few days, we have been looking at these two verses. We have looked at how Paul commands us not to be anxious but instead, to pray about everything. But it doesn’t stop there! We should also be thanking God for everything He has done for us.
What Paul means here is that even when you don’t understand your current circumstances, even when nothing in life seems to make sense and you don’t really get what God is up to, you can still have peace.
This peace is available to you through faith. What that means is, I don’t have to understand what God is doing in my life. I don’t have to know how everything is going to play out to have peace in my life. That peace comes from trusting Him.
The entire purpose of these two verses is based on faith. Without faith, you will have anxiety. Without faith, you will not pray and truly trust God. Without faith, it is hard to be thankful for what you already have. And without faith, you cannot have peace in the midst of a storm.
The peace of God is available to you, today…not based on your circumstances, but based on the One who holds your circumstances!
