Do Not Be Anxious
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
Would you consider yourself an anxious person? In today’s society, the words “anxiety” and “depression” are more commonly talked about than ever before. Mental health is as important now as it has ever been. And yet so many people neglect or overlook their mental health.
Over the next few days, we are going to look at what the Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6-7 when he says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The very first thing Paul is saying in this verse is “do not be anxious about anything.” That word “anxious,” when googled, means “experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.”
See, as believers, this is a problem. Because if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, there are no uncertain outcomes. Your future is sealed in Him. No matter what happens now, He will make all things right in the end.
Revelation 21:5 reminds us, “And the one sitting on the throne said, ‘Look, I am making everything new!’ And then he said to me, ‘Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.’”
What are you nervous or anxious about in your life? God is working in your situation. Everything that has happened, is happening, or will happen is either allowed or orchestrated by God Himself. Nothing is outside of His control.
The reason you do not have to be anxious is because the outcome isn’t uncertain. It might be uncertain in the moment for you, but it is not uncertain to Him in whom you have placed your faith. Trusting God is about giving up your worries and anxieties and allowing God to take control. His ways are always best!
