What Is Presence?
“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” - Hebrews 13:16
When we need God, He shows up. He provides for all our needs because that is who He is and what He does.
Although we are not God, we are called to be like Jesus. And because of that, we too can show up for others. As we stated yesterday, perhaps the greatest ministry the church can practice is the ministry of presence.
Sometimes, people don’t need an expert or a motivational speaker...they just need someone to be there. Sometimes, people just need to be heard. Presence is about showing up and engaging oneself in what others verbal and nonverbally say and feel. And that is what we can do as believers. We are called to be “the hands and feet” of Jesus. And that means being present when others need us.
Hebrews 13:16 says, “And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Giving up your time is a sacrifice. But it is one that pleases God.
If you want to be like Jesus, you can do so by giving your presence to those who desperately need it. There are people all around us who just need to be seen, heard, and felt. We don’t do this to receive something in return. We do this to show the glory of God through our actions.
Do you want to be like Jesus? Give your presence to others.
