Valley Lows
“Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?’” - John 11:25-26
How do you handle seasons of disappointment, discouragement, doubt, and depression? Sadness and grief occur for many reasons, such as: the loss of a loved one, not receiving a job or an opportunity we think we deserve, illness landing on our doorstep, or losing a home to foreclosure.
No matter who you are, no matter what you have been blessed with, and no matter how strong your faith is, you will go through seasons that are “mountain tops” and you will go through seasons that are “valley lows.”
God might not orchestrate your valley lows, but He will allow them. Remember, God’s will for you is not to always be comfortable. God’s will is that you grow in your faith and that you grow to be more like His Son, Jesus. Going through the difficulties, disappointments, and discouragements of life will challenge your faith and give you opportunities to show you trust God and are committed to His plan for your life.
If God was a genie that just gave you anything and everything you want, it would be easy to follow Him. Everyone would follow someone who was always making things easy and good. But God tells us to be different. We are not just called to follow Him to the mountaintop—when everything in life is going great.
God wants us to trust Him in the valley lows. Even when disappointment, discouragement, doubt, or depression creeps in, Jesus is faithful. The God you serve is bigger than the circumstances you face. Trust Him no matter what the situation. After all, if He allowed it, He has a plan for you. And He will lead you through it.
