Dreams or Memories?
“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” - Isaiah 43:18-19
What is your focus? What do you spend more time thinking about: your dreams of what the future could look like? Or the memories of how happy you were in the past? Where is your focus?
Do you merely rest upon the accomplishments of the past, or will your dreams exceed your memories? We live in a world where we constantly hear people say, “Things aren’t as good as they used to be.” The music used to be better, the athletes were better, the nation was better, and the world was better.
Now, regardless of which side you stand on, the current world is better, or the past world is better, the debate is irrelevant. And the reason is because we cannot go back, and God does not want us to. God is with us wherever we go, and just like He moved in the past, He is moving now to make disciples of His people to shift the standards of the world.
Isaiah 43:18-19 tells us, “But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
Other translations say, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.” That is Biblical. This does not mean we shouldn’t recall the good memories of the past or that everything will be perfect in the future. But our memories shouldn’t hinder our ability to live for God in the present.
What God wants is for us to look ahead to what He is doing in our life right now. We cannot change the past, but we can write the future.
Where are you looking? At your dreams or only at your memories? And if it’s only your memories, it is time to create new dreams. It is never too late!
