Extraordinary Resilience
“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.” - 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Are you close to quitting? Please don’t do it. Are you tired of trying to live for Christ? Hang in there. Do you feel like giving up on the Christian life? Roll up your sleeves and get back in there. Can’t resist temptation? Pray to God for forgiveness and the strength to flee from sin. Do you feel that sorrow and disappointment greet you every morning? Just hold on a little longer.
Your victory is right around the corner. So don’t quit. It has been said, “Life is like reading a book. It begins to make sense when we are near the end.” So, fight another round, rise another time, and above all, don’t give up.
The greatest men and women of the Bible were not super-human. They were just resilient. They were able to bounce back from defeats, press on after discouragement, and endure hardships. Paul, the apostle, showed resilience when he met up with Jewish resistance in Acts 18, but he stayed another year and a half in Corinth teaching them the Word of God.
Job showed resilience after experiencing great hardships, but he said, “Lord, now I know you can do all things and no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” Timothy showed resilience when the elders looked down on his youthfulness. Peter showed great resilience after stumbling badly many times.
The Bible is filled with stories of people who, through Christ, did extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances because of their extraordinary resilience! And that same resilience lives within you. You just have to tape into it with God’s help.
