God’s Presence
“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” - Psalm 46:1
Yesterday, we talked about the importance of resilience. It is a word that must not only be a part of your vocabulary, but it must also be a part of your life if you are going to reach your potential for Christ. But how can we be resilient? It is easy to talk about, but how do we bounce back from the difficulties life has thrown in front of us?
It starts with being convinced of God’s presence. The emphasis throughout Psalm 46 is the presence of the Lord with His people. Verse 1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” Verse 5 says, “God is in the midst of the city.” And both verses 7 and 11 say, “The Lord of hosts is with us.”
The point here is that when we are going through difficult times, we must be confident that God is with us. Whatever situation we find ourselves in, God is always with us. Whenever the world says to give up, drop out, or run away, God reminds us that He is right there. It’s something we must trust. It is a conviction we must rely upon.
God is present with us, supports us, sustains us, and encourages us. He has promised us as He did in Exodus 33:14, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.”
What I love about the book of Psalms is the tense used when it comes to the reality of God. Time and time again the psalmist says, “The Lord IS.” Not the Lord was, not the Lord will be, but the Lord IS.
The book is filled with examples, talking about God in the present tense. It is a statement that expresses a strong belief in the existence of God and the presence of God. And if you are a follower of Christ, that same God is present in YOUR life, today. If you want to be resilient in the face of difficult circumstances, always remember: the Lord’s presence is with you!
