A Reflection of Him
“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” - Matthew 5:16
When Jesus decides to test us, there is most definitely a purpose behind it. It is not always a punishment, but instead a purposeful opportunity. Yesterday, we looked at how sometimes Jesus tests us to clarify whether He is our highest priority.
But tests also come to purify us, either to remove an impurity or to bring out a quality. Let’s go back to an illustration we have used several times over the past few days: the refiner and the metal. When the refiner puts metal in the fire, the heat is hot, but it is for a purpose.
The heat is not to destroy the metal; it is to develop the metal, to make it better. The test was painful, but it was purposeful. When the refiner takes the metal out of the fire, he looks at the metal to see if he can see his image in it.
The tests we face are to see if God can see His image in us, to see if we can be trusted with the blessing He has given us. It is only a test. It is not to harm you, but to help you. It was designed to strengthen your faith and solidify your walk with God.
Can you be trusted with the blessings God has in store for you? When He puts you to the test, does He see His image in you? The Lord will not test you beyond what you can handle. But He will also not bless you beyond what you can handle. Before you receive all that God has in store for you, He wants to know that when you face trials and tests, you are a reflection of His image!
