The Lord Needs YOU
“So they went and found the colt, just as Jesus had said. And sure enough, as they were untying it, the owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying that colt?’ And the disciples simply replied, ‘The Lord needs it.’ So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on.” - Luke 19:32-35
Yesterday we discussed the story found in Luke 19 of Jesus coming into Jerusalem riding a colt, also known as a young horse or donkey. There is a significant character often left out of that story: the donkey’s owners. We do not know the owners’ names. We only know their faithfulness in serving the Lord.
New York firefighter Timothy Stackpole was severely burned in a 1998 fire. He had a long and painful recovery. Many of his family and friends wanted him to retire after the traumatic incident, but he knew his calling was to serve in this capacity.
The morning of September 11, 2001, Stackpole was off duty when he heard about the World Trade Center towers being struck by two airliners. He believed it was his duty to assist and he died in the collapse of the second tower.
Many didn’t know his name, but his loyalty and faithfulness to his calling, even to the death, showed his dedication and commitment, despite adversity.
God wants to use you to do crucial and important work as well. It may not be as a colt owner or firefighter, it may not be in a “glamourous” capacity, but He can use you exactly where you are. Do not let the role or the recognition of the role determine your faithfulness. God will reward you in much greater ways than earthly recognition.
Regardless of whether you are a star or role player, the Lord needs YOU!
