Fasting To Increase Faith
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” - 2 Corinthians 5:7
If you want to grow in intimacy with Christ, you should fast. If you want clarity to better hear what God is saying to you, you should fast. If you are waiting for a breakthrough, you should fast. If you want to purge sin and addiction from your life, you should fast. And if you want to increase your faith… well, you should fast.
Fasting is such an amazing and powerful practice because of the commitment it takes. God honors that commitment and rewards us, often with greater spiritual maturity, a better understanding of Him, and increased faith. When you show Him through the action of fasting that you are serious about it, it takes things to another level.
This is when you begin to hear God’s voice in an entirely new way. This is when you receive clarity on things you were not quite sure about. And when you get serious and fast, God will speak to you in a way that increases your faith exponentially. See, it doesn’t matter what your circumstances are or how things appear to be.
God can change everything in an instant. It is laughable to God when we think our situation is so bad that it is beyond fixing. Not laughable in the sense that He is numb to our pain or frustration, but in the sense that God knows He is bigger that whatever we may go through. God has the power to change any situation because He can do anything but fail if it’s in His will to change. He is a way maker and a burden-bearer.
You may ask, if God can change my situation, why hasn’t He? Sometimes, He isn’t looking to change your situation because He is looking to change YOU. And it’s in adversity that we learn to rely on a power greater than our own. He needs your faith. Anyone can believe in something they see. That doesn’t require any faith at all. Non-believers can see something and believe in it.
God wants you to trust Him even when things appear to be unfixable. When everyone else would write you off, or write off your chances, you must still believe. Fasting will give you that newfound faith. Because you gain a whole new strength from God, you will trust Him in a way you never have before. If you want to challenge your faith and trust God in a whole new light, fast for it.
