Fasting To Hear
“‘Consider carefully what you hear,’ he continued. ‘With the measure you use, it will be measured to you— and even more.’” - Mark 4:24
Fasting is an effective tool we can use for many reasons. Yesterday, we discussed fasting to gain greater intimacy with God. We can also fast to better hear from God on a particular matter. Many people will fast to gain clarity about what God is telling them.
With so much noise and confusion surrounding us, it’s sometimes hard to know which voice we should truly listen to and follow. When you fast, you give yourself more time alone with Christ. You cut out something that has taken your time, and you give that time to God. This is the time you can use to cut through the noise.
When you get alone with God and eliminate all distractions, you will be able to listen better to what He is saying to you about a particular matter. When you fast, what you give up is nothing compared to what you gain. That time with Christ is invaluable. And one of the reasons for this is the clarity and ability to better hear God’s voice and discern situations in your life.
Maybe you wonder if you should take a new job or leave your old one. Maybe you have considered moving and changing locations. Maybe you and your spouse want to have a child. Or maybe you are deciding if you should date a specific person.
Do you need to hear God’s voice? Maybe it is time to fast. Not only will you gain greater intimacy, but you will position yourself to hear what God needs you to hear.
