Turn It Around
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.” - Luke 15:22-24
I want to continue our examination of the Prodigal Son. Yesterday, we heard the story of a privileged son who got off track in life because he was impatient, irresponsible, and made a series of decisions that led him to compromise his morals and his values. But as bad as things got for him, they did not stay that way.
After getting to his lowest point, he was able to turn his life around. Luke 15:17 says, “When he came to his senses, he said ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you… So he got up and went to his father.”
It says, “When he came to his senses.” If you want to turn your situation around, you must first understand what is holding you back. What is keeping you from changing? Are you stuck in sin? Do you continue to fall for the same temptation day after day, week after week? Have you chosen a path God did not choose for you? Wherever you are, and whatever you have done, God is waiting for you, and He will help you turn your life around.
But if you want to turn it around you must come to your senses, and you also must get up. Verse 20 says, “So he got up and went to his father.” You can’t turn it around by walking in the same direction. You also can’t turn it around by sitting in the same place. You must get up.
Are you sick of your current circumstances? Does something in your life need to change? God is a loving Father who is ready for you to return to Him and chase His destiny for you. But if you want to turn your life around, you must come to your senses, and you must get up and go to your Father.
