Outside God’s Strike Zone
“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” - Ephesians 5:17
Have you ever swung at a pitch outside of God’s strike zone? Of course, the optimal pitch to swing at is between the chest and knees, over the plate. Anything outside of this, in baseball, should be avoided. Those who get overly eager and swing at these pitches often miss the pitch.
This is not only the case in baseball, but it is true in real life as well. If it is outside God’s strike zone (God’s will), we should not swing. Unfortunately, oftentimes we create and entertain ideas, and make decisions, that are outside of God’s perfect will for our lives.
And if we are honest, a lot of times, we know it. We know deep down when we are about to do something, hook up with someone, or agree to something that is not in line with what God has for us. We try to talk to others, hoping they will cosign what we want, knowing that what we want is not what God wants for us.
All of us, if we are honest, have made decisions and pursued plans without asking God about the plan, and wound up getting ahead of Him, out of His will, and many times, in His way. All of us have swung at pitches outside of God’s strike zone. We know the pitch isn’t good, but we swing anyways.
Have you swung at a bad pitch recently? Are you currently considering swinging at a bad pitch? It is never a good idea to get outside of God’s strike zone. Like baseball, nothing good happens when you swing outside. But unlike baseball, the consequences of opposing God’s will can be much more detrimental than just striking out. If you are considering swinging outside the zone, I would encourage you to let that pitch go, because God has a better one coming, and it is just the pitch for you!
