Preparing The Soil
“He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful. In that day your cattle will graze in broad meadows.” - Isaiah 30:23
There is a scene in the movie, “Facing the Giants,” where the head football coach questions his faith in God to the school’s head intercessor. The man turns to the coach and gives him the story of two farmers who plowed their fields in the midst of a drought and only one of the farmers went and planted seed in the field.
The man says to the coach, “both farmers prayed for rain. Which farmer do you think really trusted in God to bring the rain?” The coach replied, “I suppose the one that went and prepared his field and planted the seed.” The intercessor then asked him, “which man are you?”
Yesterday, we talked about working for what we are waiting for. Understand this, when you ask God for something, you already understand that there is a certain element that is out of your control. You know that only God can do it for you. But there is still a part for you to play. You must do what only you can do, so God can do what only He can do.
In the farmer’s case, he cannot provide the rain. He has no control over when it rains, and that is why he prays. But what he can do is prepare the soil. In doing so, he shows that he trusts God. The farmer believes that God will do His part, and so in turn the farmer must do his.
As you wait for rain, are you preparing the soil? What can you do right now to prepare for the blessing God is going to rain on you? God will do His part, but in the meantime are you doing yours? Do not sit around and wait to the point that when God does bless you, you are unprepared and not ready. Prepare the soil now, so when God sends the rain, your crops are ready!
