A Test of Faith
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” - Hebrews 11:1
God continuously tests us so that He can spiritually develop us. Yesterday, we spoke about a test of patience. Today, we will discuss the testing of our faith.
In the book of Daniel, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego, three Hebrew boys, became high appointed officials in Babylon. Jealous of their position, other officials, knowing Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego worshiped God, convinced King Nebuchadnezzar to command all the people in Babylon to worship a gold statue. These 3 Hebrew boys refused.
The king summoned them and threatened to throw them in a blazing furnace if they would not bow down to the man-made God. The Hebrew boys responded “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up” (Daniel 16-18).
Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego, though tested with the sacrificing their life, decided to continue to worship God. They walked around in the fire, unbound and unharmed. Their faith caused King Nebuchadnezzar to praise God.
Your test is not only for you. Your test is to be able to help others when they are struggling with their faith. The important thing to remember that your test is not in vain. It increases your faith so that you will be prepared for the next level on your journey. Regardless of the outcome, proclaim today that you will remain faithful. Keep the faith!
