What He Promised
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.” - Deuteronomy 7:6
The story is told of two little girls who were counting the number of pennies in their possession. The first little girl shouted that she had five pennies, while the second little girl exclaimed that she had ten pennies. When the first little girl counted her friend’s pennies, she said “No, you have five pennies like me.” The second little girl stated that her father was going to give her five more pennies when he got home, so she would have ten pennies in her possession.
Although the young girl did not have her father’s pennies, she counted them because her father made a promise and she had faith that it would come to pass. Regardless of what her current situation she knew there was a promise waiting on her.
God treats us the same way. He promises that He will not leave nor forsake us. He promises that He has plans to prosper and not harm us. He promises that nothing in all creation can separate us from His love. We just have to be willing to trust in His promises and not lose sight of them.
The promise may not be fulfilled today, it may not be fulfilled this year, but we cannot lose hope. We must remember that if God said it, He will do it. God sees us as His treasured possession, and He will not allow us to fail as long as we are holding onto His hand.
If you find yourself growing weary, open up the Bible and read 2 Corinthians 1:3–4. God is there to comfort you. Just hold on to the promise.
