Recognize What You Still Have
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.”
Job 13:15
The book of Job is a relatively popular book of the Bible because it highlights not only the damage and destruction that Job faces, but also the recovery and restoration that follows.
In one day, Job receives news that his livestock, servants, and ten children have all died due to invaders and natural catastrophes. Job mourns and expresses some doubt, but still chooses to bless God. Even when Job gets sick and his wife encourages him to curse God, he remains faithful.
Although Job seemingly loses almost everything, he isn’t lacking in the end. He receives more wealth, more children, and improved health. Regardless of whether you are— whether you are in a peak or a valley—don’t lose sight of how God is currently blessing you. Do not let what you’ve lost keep you from seeing what you still have.
God has blessed all of us. There are people in our lives who love us. There are gifts and abilities God has graciously given us. There are resources around us. All of these things are blessings that we should be thankful for because there is someone else who would love to have what we have.
If you are going through a storm and want to change your perspective, become happier, and see things in a new light, start recognizing what you still have. Praise God right now! What has God given you? What are you blessed with? Focus on these things first! Gratitude always invites greater into your life!
