A Solid Foundation
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” - Matthew 7:24-25
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest building in the world, standing at over 1200 feet. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is more than twice the height of the Empire State Building, and almost three times the size of the Eiffel Tower. It has the tallest elevator in a building, can boast the most floors in a building (163), and the highest restaurant from ground level (over 1,447 ft). However, it would not be able maintain its structure without a solid foundation. Its foundation contains 58,900 cubic yards of concrete weighing more than 110,000 tons.
In Matthew 7, Jesus teaches the importance of building your house on a solid foundation. A wise builder will build his or her house on a rock-solid foundation. But a foolish builder will build his or her house on a shaky foundation. And what happens to that shaky foundation when a storm comes? The house too gets destroyed with the foundation.
What type of spiritual foundation are you building? We may go to church, read the Bible, having great spiritual guides and pray often. However, the true test comes when the storms of life come our way. When your health fails, someone dies, you don’t get the opportunity you want or lose an important relationship, do you still trust that God is able to calm the storm or calm you in the storm?
Does your faith remind you that nothing is impossible with God, that you can do all things through God who strengthens you? Your faith is your foundation. Remember that when the storms of life come your way.
