Shift To Your Back Foot
“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” - Proverbs 14:29
When it comes to trusting God, we must learn to be patient. This is often why God will not give us what we want when we want it. God’s primary concern is growing and molding us to be more like Jesus. This doesn’t mean that God does not want to give us the desires of our heart, because He does. But He is more concerned with growing our character.
When I was in high school, I made all-district and all-state as a designated hitter in baseball. I was good at hitting. But once, when I was having a hitting slump, my father who was my coach, told me that the problem was that I was getting ahead of the pitcher. He said I kept swinging at bad pitches. So, to help fix my problem, he told me to shift my weight to my back foot because it would make me more patient and give me more time to see the ball.
Does this sound familiar? Maybe you do not play baseball and are not getting ahead of the pitcher; but instead, you are getting ahead of God. You are trying to swing early and get ahead of God’s plan. Instead, shift to your back foot; or in other words, take a back seat. Allow God to be the driving force that knocks it out of the park.
There is no better result than when God is leading. Consider your waiting period an exercise in patience. Shift back and let God take control.
