What Blessings Have You Forgotten?
“Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.” - Deuteronomy 8:11
When it comes to counting your blessings, it is easy to think about the physical things you can see—the people God has surrounded you with, the place you live, the car you drive, the clothes you wear. We live a world where “flexing” what you have is the norm. Showing off the assets you have collected or built up brings a sense of ‘importance.” And it seems everyone is looking to level up their status.
Maybe you don’t have all the assets listed above. Maybe you have an abundance of them. Either way, it is likely you haven’t found fulfillment in them. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with physical assets and material items, but they aren’t going to bring you the things you want most in life. And perhaps constantly thinking of them has made you forget what all God has blessed you with.
If you do not have a lot of material items, you might spend more of your time thinking about what you do not have. If you have a lot, you are probably perplexed as to why you still do not seem content. What blessings are you forgetting about? There are so many more rewarding gifts God has to offer than any physical item.
God gives peace to those who follow Him. He grants the ability to rest easy knowing He is taking care of everything, including you. God gives love, a type that you do not have to earn; it is a free gift. God gives assurance in His power that He is in control, and that all you must do is trust Him. The list goes on and on. But these are blessings we far too often take for granted.
If you have struggled with happiness or a positive viewpoint lately, what blessings have you forgotten? Ask God to show you what you cannot see, and when He does, spend time thanking Him for the gifts He has given you, especially the ones that will not break or go out of style.
