What is Troubling Your Heart?
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am.” - John 14:1-3
In order to deal with a troubled heart, you must first learn to trust God’s plan. Jesus tells His disciples that the reason they don’t have to worry is because His departure is a part of a broader plan. He responds to their fears and questions by redirecting their focus from a place of fear regarding the future and the pain of a predicament, to the ultimate promise of God’s plan.
Like driving in inclement weather, we often only see what is right in front of us. We cannot see what is further down the road and that puts us on high alert. However, God is saying, even though you cannot see the entire journey, I can. And when I direct you down a safer route, it is not to throw you off your planned path, but it is designed to get you to your destination safely, and more efficiently.
Whatever it is, Jesus says don’t let your worry replace your faith. Do not let your fears, frustrations, and your failings clog the spiritual arteries of your life, preventing you from being and doing what God wants you to do. Because the life He has planned for you does not involve you being in constant distress. Your test will soon turn into your testimony.
