War From Within
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am.” - John 14:1-3
During one of His last earthly conversations, Jesus spoke to the disciples about their heart. He contextualized the conversation around a troubled heart, or one that was worried and weighed down, tense and stressed out. Jesus had this conversation with the disciples, but it was recorded in the Bible to help us to apply it to our situation today.
For the disciples, the challenge they were facing was the prospect of Jesus no longer being with them physically after death. They struggled with what his departure meant for their lives, their future, and their protection. For us, we may be wondering how we are going to pay our bills, or take care of our children, or get a new job, or find a new relationship. We may be worried about a health challenge or be dealing with grief or conflict.
The war from within can be a great battle, but God does not want your heart to be troubled. Your job is not to ignore or forget about the battle, but to seek the One who can protect you in the battle. Because of God, you do not have to have troubled heart—just a trusting heart!
