Unfinished Business
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland”
- Isaiah 43:19
When you go to the movies, the storyline is, generally speaking, the same. The hero begins with what seems to be a normal life. Then they are sent on a journey that forces them to stretch themselves in ways they did not know they were capable of being stretched. They face extreme adversity in a way that often seems like it will defeat them, and then the conquer the obstacle, overcome the adversity, and everything works out in the end. This is the story we all know too well.
But what happens when you do not defeat the obstacle? When you don’t overcome the adversity? What about when there is “unfinished business”? The hero of the story is always praised for overcoming anything and everything that comes at them. But what happens when you do not even get the opportunity to overcome? Sometimes, God doesn’t intend for you to fight that battle. Sometimes, you do not get to dictate the ending. It might even seem unresolved.
God is not always concerned with how one chapter ends. Sometimes all that matters is that it has, and the question is, what’s next? In this case, it’s time to write another chapter. Not every chapter has a clear and clean cut ending. But this does not mean you do not move to the next chapter. Maybe this is where you are. Something in your life has signified the end. Even though you do not have the answers you want, even though you did not get to say all that you wanted to say, or do all that you wanted to do, the book isn’t finished…just that chapter.
Trust that God has ended the chapter for a reason, and that this next one will be your best yet. But it can’t be if you aren’t fully ready to embrace it. It’s time to write another chapter. Are you ready?
