Even When I Can’t See
“Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ.” - Philippians 4:17-19
In today’s verse, Paul, writing from a Roman prison, was acknowledging a gift of money from the church at Philippi and their generosity to help him in his time of need.
This provides a model for us as to how we should “do church.” We know about having church service, but “doing church” means helping others when they are in need, feeding and clothing the hungry, spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, and being the light in a world filled with so much darkness. Here we learn the effect that our generosity can have on others. We also learn, as Paul iterates, “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ.” We do not have to worry about lack because God is going to supply us with everything we need to do His will.
You might be going through tough times right now—whether it be financially, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. However, God wants you trust Him, regardless of the circumstance. You may be saying, sounds easier said than done. But isn’t that the point? God doesn't just want a part of us. He wants us to trust Him in it all, believing even when we cannot see how things will play out. That is a true act of faith. If you will trust God, even when you cannot trace Him, He will honor your faithfulness, time and time again.
