Prioritizing Prayer
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.” (Ezekiel 22:30-31)
The language in our key passage describes the role that the High Priest played, and also portrays the problem, cited by God, that there was no one to be found who could fulfill the role of High Priest. It’s not that no one could, but that no one would take the role. They were able, but not willing.
How many times have we found ourselves in similar positions in regards to our prayer life—able but not willing? We push prayer to the back burner when we have other things on our plates and on our minds. We are so busy with work, school, family, and other commitments that prayer is not prioritized. But God is looking for people willing to forsake personal comforts and conveniences to come to Him in prayer.
The prophet says that when we stand in the gap for the broken, we are also standing before God and with God. For God is always with us, whenever and wherever brokenness is present in the world.
So my prayer is that you will make it a priority to pray. Don’t forget how important and powerful prayer is, and always remember that time spent praying to God is never wasted.
