God Is Always Guiding You
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14)
When you read the story of Esther in the Bible, the text suggests that what convinces Esther to take her petition to the king is that she recognizes she is in her position for a reason (v. 13-14). Esther and her people are preparing to endure difficult days. They are the victims of a genocidal plot and are preparing to face death and suffering. The highest-ranking government officials have weaponized the government of Persia against them and Mordecai says to Esther, you have been called by God to make a difference for such a time as this.
Mordecai then goes on to encourage her to review her history and reflect on how she got where she was. Was it by her own efforts? Was it because she was so bright and intelligent, or was it because of the favor and grace of God?
These are questions not only for Esther, but for all of us as well. If God is sovereign and He loves us, then we can expect that God’s hand is upon us, God’s will is leading us, and God’s protection is around us. We are where God wants us to be not by accident, but by design. I pray that you will take comfort in that truth today and in all the days to come.
