Excitement For God’s Word
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
On two occasions in the second chapter of Acts, the Bible says that the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching. From this statement, we get a sense that these believers were dedicated to the Word of God. The most obvious sign that people love their church shows up when they are dedicated and excited about the Word they hear in church.
When we go to church each week, or when we watch church online, we should be excited about hearing the Word of God. We should look forward to being encouraged and challenged by the teaching of Scripture. We should be hopeful with anticipation of what God wants to show us and how He wants to grow us through His Holy Word.
These saints mentioned in Acts chapter two understood that the Word of God is foundational for our lives. We must come to the same understanding and have that same love for God’s Word if we want to see the Church thrive in today’s time.
Our world needs the Word of God now more than ever before. We need its truth, its wisdom, its guidance, and its hope. But we will never be able to grab hold of any of those gifts if we don’t get excited about opening up and reading our Bibles.
Reading God’s Word shouldn’t just be a task on your to-do list. It should be the highlight of your day. For when you make that shift from reading it because you have to, to reading it because you want to, you’ll be amazed at how God uses His Word to change your life.
