Look Inward
But I will rejoice forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. (Psalm 75:9)
When it comes to closure, if it’s something you really want, you must find it within. You can’t always expect other people to give it to you.
Notice the shift in the Psalmist’s language. The Psalmist says in the last verse “as for me, I will praise the God of Jacob.” Up until this point, the psalmist has talked about the wicked, the arrogant, the plot of his enemies, and God’s response. However, in the last verse, he begins to focus on himself.
Most of us never get the closure we need because we are too focused on others and not focused enough on ourselves. We have become preoccupied and obsessed with who hurt us, how they hurt us and who’s still friends with them. We never give any priority to ourselves.
You are not going to experience true healing when you’re giving 90% of your attention to the person who caused you harm and only 10% of your attention to yourself. Instead, you must develop the capacity to love yourself. You never fully gain wisdom from what happened to you until you start to talk to you about you. In other words, choosing healing means mustering up enough courage to look inward.
At the end of the day, you can’t control how other people treat you, but you can control the way you react to them. So let that be your focus, turning inward rather than looking outward, so that you can truly begin to heal from the hurt you’ve experienced.
