Learning God’s Will In God’s Presence
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. – Ephesians 5:17
Anyone who has spent any time with God knows that discovering the will of God is anything but an exact science. There aren’t six easy steps like the scientific method, and boom, you have the will of God for your life. In fact, it’s not like that at all. It’s a journey that requires careful attention and constant cultivation over an extended period of time.
Discerning the will of God does not happen overnight; it is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. That is why the Scripture says, “the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong,” indicating that the one who endures to the end shall be saved.
One cannot microwave faith into maturity. It requires slow, methodical engagement, and a desire to love and worship God with your whole heart. This is important because the will of God for our lives is discovered in the context of doing life with God.
The more you spend time with God, the more you are going to gain wisdom, clarity, and discernment. And in acquiring those things, you will be given more insight into God’s will, plan, and purpose for your life. On the other hand, if you don’t prioritize spending time with the Lord, you are most likely going to feel like you’re in the dark when it comes to figuring out God’s will. You’re going to become confused, frustrated, and uncertain, wondering what you should do and where you should go. That’s why it’s so important for you make time to connect with your Heavenly Father every single day.
