Recording God’s Faithfulness
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. – Hebrews 13:8
For the past several days, we’ve been looking at the account in 1 Samuel 30 of David and his people being attacked and suffering great loss. If you keep reading, you’ll see that years later, David is attacked by the Amalekites.
When this happened, I believe David was encouraged by reminding himself that this was not the first battle he had faced; and he reflected on this list of victories that God had given him in the past to gain confidence in his present. He was reminded that if God could handle that, then God could handle this; that if God did it before, then God could do it again. And you can see his spirit get lighter as you read this story.
I’m a firm believer that everyone needs a list. We all need to keep a record of past victories that the Lord has brought us through. I know what you lost was painful, and what you went through was hard, but regardless of what you lost, there is greater ahead to gain. You’ve seen God come through for you in the past, so you can have greater faith and trust in Him moving forward to come through for you once again.
Are you keeping a list of God’s faithfulness in your life? Do you have stories you can tell of how God has worked in your past circumstances and situations? If not, I would encourage you to take some time and write these stories out. Then, the next time you find yourself in the midst of a trial or a storm, you can go back and read these stories and be reminded that not only was God faithful in your past, but He will be faithful in your future as well.
