Lift Jesus Higher
So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. (Luke 19: 35-37)
The donkey that was used by Jesus during his triumphant entry into Jerusalem paints a beautiful picture of what it’s like to fulfill the role God has for you. The donkey didn’t mind being used for his purpose. He didn’t buck and protest when Jesus went to ride him into the city. Instead, he walked forward in his role, fulfilling his purpose of getting Jesus closer to the cross on that Friday.
Also, consider that this donkey wasn’t anything that the world would deem special. He wasn’t a Clydesdale, one of those high-stepping animals bred for performance. He wasn’t looking for stardom or recognition. He wasn’t looking for a prize. His only job was to lift Jesus higher. His prearranged purpose, his divine goal, was to make Jesus visible to the crowd. The donkey was used as a platform for the Lord, and that’s what our goal should be as well as followers of Christ.
The Lord is looking for believers who are more interested in lifting Him up than they are in lifting themselves up. For if you lift Jesus higher, God will be glorified, Jesus will be magnified, and the Spirit will be revitalized.
Are you willing to be a platform that lifts Jesus higher for people to see? Are you willing to sacrifice any sort of recognition, stardom, or fame in order to point others to the Lord? My prayer is that moving forward, you will live your life in a way that is more concerned with magnifying Christ than magnifying yourself, for that is a decision you will not regret making.
