A Compassionate And Gracious God
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. (Psalm 86:15)
Have you ever taken the time to really think about how gracious God is towards you? Even if you tried to think about it, there’s no way you could fully grasp and fathom just how gracious, merciful, and loving the Lord is towards you and every other one of His children.
This is such good news because it means that God doesn’t measure His relationship with us by our worst moment. Even though other people might judge us and label us by our mistakes, our imperfections, and our shortcomings, God doesn’t. Just because our track record isn’t perfect doesn’t mean we aren’t God’s children.
Thankfully, He is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, as the psalmist says. He’s the God who runs to meet the prodigal son. He’s the God who meets us where we are, rather than where we’re not. He embraces our flaws and imperfections, not to leave us there, but to cultivate in us the courage, the compassion, and the connection with Him we need to make it in this world.
So don’t be afraid to go to Him when you’ve done something wrong. Don’t think you have to have all your ducks in a row and be perfectly presentable to approach your Heavenly Father. Instead, remember that you can come to Him as you are. Whether you’re broken, hurting, frustrated, guilty, or ashamed, He wants to help you. He wants to heal you. He wants to show you that His love for you is unconditional and everlasting. That’s what His grace and compassion are for. So turn to Him today, no matter where you’re at or what you’re going through.
