There Is More To Your Story
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
How many times have you had a plan in mind for how you wanted something to go, but things ended happening completely differently than you ever expected? For many of us, this has happened more times than we can count.
While sometimes it can be frustrating when life doesn’t turn out the way we thought it would, it can also be the biggest blessing that God had a different story in mind for us. Because at times when we think the story is over, the Lord shows us that there are still more chapters to be written.
I love what Ellen Goodman says about this principle. She writes, “It begins with the vision to recognize when a job, a life stage, or a relationship is over – and let it go. It means leaving what’s over without denying its validity or its past importance to our lives. It involves a sense of future, a belief that every exit line is an entry, that we are moving up, rather than out.”
Every exit line is an entry. What we think is an ending, God can use for a new beginning. Goodman goes on to talk about how there were plenty of times as an author when we she had come to the final sentence of the final paragraph of the final chapter of a book, and she would realize there was more story to tell. There was another chapter to be written.
Life happens the same way sometimes. Just when you think you’ve gotten to the end of your story, God shows you that He has more to write. You see firsthand what Proverbs 16:9 is talking about when it says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” As long as you are on this earth, there is more to your story. The book of your life didn’t end with the breakup, the abuse, the rejection, the heartache, or the letdown. There is still more to come, so don’t stop. Don’t give up. And trust the Author of life who crafts the best stories of all.
