Don’t Overlook Your Blessings
"In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will" – Ephesians 1:11
There was a young man who used to spend time with a friend’s family often enough that he almost became like one of their own. They would take him to dinner, buy him things at the mall, and even gift him a leather jacket once. Years later, after giving his life to Christ and answering the call to ministry, that same young man stood in front of a church and shared how those simple acts of kindness shaped him. He never forgot the generosity of that father, a man who gave him access and blessings. Not because he was his biological son, but because he had a relationship with his son.
That is the perfect picture of what we experience in our relationship with Jesus. We don’t deserve the privileges God gives us. We didn’t earn them. But because we are in relationship with His Son, we now get to live as part of the family. That means the blessings we’ve been discussing for the last five days are not just theological concepts. They are your new reality.
You have the blessing of redemption. You were bought back and set free from the bondage of sin by the blood of Jesus. You have the blessing of reconciliation. God restored your broken relationship with Him, bringing you back into fellowship when you had no way to fix it yourself. You have the blessing of revelation. God opens your eyes to His will and gives you discernment for the journey ahead. You have the blessing of responsibility. He entrusted you with purpose, inviting you to be His hands and feet in a world that desperately needs Him. And you have the blessing of reward. An eternal inheritance waits for you, and every step you take in obedience brings glory to the One who called you.
Maybe you feel ordinary. Maybe you wonder if you really matter. But child of God, you are walking proof of His grace. You’re not an outsider sneaking blessings. You’re a full member of the family because of Jesus. Don’t overlook the access you’ve been given. Walk in it. Trust it. And never forget who it all came from.
