When What You Are Going Through Does Not Have to Go Through You
“I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” - Psalm 34:1
Life has a way of sending storms that feel personal. Some seasons hit with such force that you start believing the struggle is part of who you are. The disappointment settles in. The fear grows louder. The pressure becomes familiar. Without realizing it, what you are going through starts leaking into how you see yourself. But Scripture teaches something different. Life may hit you, but it does not have to shape you. The storm around you does not have to become the storm inside you.
David understood that truth. When he wrote these words, he was running for his life. Nothing about his situation looked stable or peaceful. Yet he made a choice. He chose to bless the Lord at all times, not because the moment felt good, but because he refused to let the moment define him. His situation was chaotic, but his spirit stayed anchored.
Gratitude does not erase hardship. It does not guarantee that pain will disappear by tomorrow. What it does is guard your heart. When you thank God in the middle of what hurts, you create space for His presence to sit where fear once lived. You remind yourself that the situation is real, but it is not final. You remember that the storm is loud, but God is louder.
Whatever you are facing today, breathe for a moment. Remind yourself that God is with you right now. Thank Him for being your strength. Thank Him for keeping you afloat when you felt like sinking. Thank Him for holding you together even when life felt scattered. Every word of gratitude builds another layer of protection around your heart.
The storm may be real, but it does not have permission to enter your spirit. Let gratitude be the shield that keeps what you are going through from going through you.
