Don’t Get Stuck Blaming
"But when Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men… and went in pursuit." – Genesis 14:14
There’s something powerful about a person who refuses to waste time pointing fingers. In Genesis 14, Abram hears that his nephew Lot has been captured. Now, Lot wasn’t exactly a model of gratitude. He had chosen the best land for himself, parted ways with Abram, and gotten himself tangled up in a mess that could have been avoided. But when the crisis came, Abram didn’t criticize him. He didn’t blame him. He didn’t even stop to ask, “Why did you do this?” He just moved.
That right there is a lesson most of us need. When something falls apart in your life, when someone lets you down, or when you end up in a situation you didn’t expect, it’s easy to slip into blame. We blame others. We blame ourselves. We even blame God. But blame never moves you forward. It just keeps you circling the same frustration, replaying what went wrong, while nothing changes.
Abram could have sat there angry, analyzing Lot’s mistakes, or questioning whether he should have helped at all. But instead, he focused on what he could do. He assembled his people, made a plan, and took action. Because what mattered most wasn’t who was at fault, it was that someone he loved was in trouble, and he had the chance to do something about it.
What if you stopped trying to figure out who to blame for the pain and just stepped into what God is calling you to do next? What if healing, restoration, or breakthrough in your life isn’t waiting on an explanation, but on your decision to move forward anyway?
You don’t need all the answers to act in obedience. You don’t need full understanding to walk in faith. What you need is the courage to stop blaming and start believing that God can still move, even from here. Let go of the blame and take the next step. Forward is still possible.
