In the Middle of the Mess
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
The Bible is full of examples. Abraham was old, Joseph was abused, Moses stuttered, Rahab had a sinful past, David failed morally, Elijah battled despair, and Paul struggled with poor health. None of them had flawless circumstances, but all of them were used by God in powerful ways.
If you study their lives closely, you’ll notice something important. God didn’t wait until their mess was cleaned up before He started working. He called Abraham while he was still wrestling with doubts about God’s promise. He was with Joseph while Joseph was still in prison. He sent Moses to Pharaoh even before Moses got over his fear of speaking. Rahab’s faith was honored while her reputation still carried the weight of her past. David was restored and continued to be used after his moral failure. Elijah was met by God in the very cave where he hid in despair. Paul carried his physical weakness throughout his ministry, and yet it never stopped the Gospel from spreading.
We often assume God’s power shows up after we get our lives perfectly together, but Scripture tells a different story. God’s power is often most visible in the middle of our mess, not after we’ve escaped it. Your weaknesses, struggles, and scars are not interruptions to God’s plan. They are the very places His strength can shine the brightest.
If you feel like your life is too complicated, too broken, or too far gone for God to use, remember this: the Bible is not a record of perfect people doing perfect things for God. It’s a record of imperfect people being transformed by a perfect God.
Don’t wait for the mess to be gone before you step into what God has called you to. Trust Him with it, bring it to Him, and watch Him work in the very place you thought disqualified you. The same God who worked through Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, David, Elijah, and Paul can work through you. Right here, right now.
