Count the Right Blessings
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” - Ephesians 1:3
There’s an old hymn that says, “Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.” It’s a song we’ve heard before, but one that hits different when you’re under pressure. When life gets heavy and discouragement settles in, one of the most powerful things you can do is take inventory of what God has done for you. That doesn’t mean just looking for cash, cars, and clothes. It means recognizing the blessings that go deeper than what people can see.
The world says you’re blessed if you have a big house and a fat bank account. But the truth is, you can live in a mansion and still feel miserable. You can drive a luxury car and still cry yourself to sleep. The real blessings are spiritual. Freedom from sin. Peace in your heart. Joy that doesn’t make sense. Clarity when everything around you feels confusing. These are the kinds of blessings Paul is talking about in Ephesians 1. He says that in Christ, you have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing. Not some. Every.
Paul knew this personally. His life was not easy. He suffered, struggled, and faced opposition. But he had peace. He had purpose. He had joy that no circumstance could steal. That’s the kind of blessing that doesn’t wear out. That’s what Jesus meant when He said, “He whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” You can be blessed and broke. You can be blessed and tired. You can be blessed and still figuring it out. Because real blessing isn’t about what’s in your hand. It’s about what’s in your heart.
So instead of comparing your life to someone else’s, take a moment to count your own blessings. Not just the visible ones. The ones that come straight from heaven. The ones no thief can steal and no economy can crash. You’re blessed more than you think.

Thank you, Pastor for this message and my newest memory verse! I feel beyond blessed daily, realizing the spiritual blessings that God has graced to me. Only He can do that, indeed!
Thank you so much, Pastor. What a good reminder that if we sit back and think of all the non-material things that God has done, how can we not feel full and rich? Remind us that our riches is not on worldy things but those of the Lord
