Equipped in Motion
“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
We often assume that before God calls us into something, He will hand us everything we need upfront. We picture Him stacking our toolbox with every skill, resource, and connection we could possibly require before we take the first step. But in Scripture, that is rarely how God works. More often, He equips us in motion.
Think about the Israelites in the wilderness. God did not give them a year’s worth of food in advance. Instead, He provided manna daily. They had to wake up each morning and trust that it would be there again. The provision came as they kept moving toward the promise. The same is true for us. We want certainty before we move, but God invites us to trust Him step by step.
Moses didn’t feel prepared to lead Israel out of Egypt, yet God sent him anyway, promising to be with him. Joshua wasn’t given a detailed battle plan for Jericho until it was time to march. Peter didn’t know he could walk on water until he stepped out of the boat. In each case, the preparation came through the doing. Their faith deepened, their skills sharpened, and their confidence grew as they obeyed, not before.
If you wait until you feel perfectly ready, you may never begin. Fear will convince you that you need just a little more time, a little more training, or a little more confirmation. But God rarely calls people who feel completely prepared. He calls those who are willing to trust Him enough to start.
Your next step of obedience might feel risky, but it’s in that risk that you will see God’s faithfulness. You may not have all the resources now, but you will discover them along the way. You may not have all the answers, but God will give you the wisdom you need in the moment you need it.
