Be Secure in Yourself
“But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being.” – Galatians 1:15-16
Paul never tried to hide his past or pretend he had always been a follower of Jesus. He admitted openly that he once persecuted the church and tried to destroy it. That kind of transparency takes courage. It also takes a deep awareness of who you are and what God has done in your life.
Paul understood that his calling didn’t come from human approval. He didn’t need the apostles in Jerusalem to confirm it. He didn’t need a committee to stamp his credentials. His authority came from a personal encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. That moment changed everything, and Paul stood secure in it.
This kind of security is something we all need, because the truth is, people will often struggle to accept what God is doing in your life if they cannot take credit for it. Paul’s opponents didn’t like that God had raised him up without their involvement. They didn’t like that his anointing came straight from the Lord. But Paul didn’t shrink back. He knew who called him, and that was enough.
When you are secure in who God made you to be, you are freed from the power of other people’s definitions. You stop living for their validation. You stop letting their opinions determine your confidence. You stand in the reality that, while you still live in the presence of a broken and evil world, you are no longer under its power.
That is what Jesus accomplished for you. Galatians 1:4 says He “gave himself for our sins to set us free from this present evil age.” That does not mean we escape hardship, criticism, or misunderstanding. But it does mean those things no longer have the authority to control our destiny or define our identity.
If God called you, no one else can cancel you. Your past cannot disqualify you. Your critics cannot derail you. The same grace that saved you is the grace that will keep you. Be secure in that. Stand in who you are in Christ and refuse to let anyone else write your story.
