Influence Starts at Home
"Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it." – Proverbs 22:6
Just because someone is around the things of God does not mean they know God. That is what we see in 1 Samuel 2. Hophni and Phinehas, sons of Eli, served in the temple. They were raised in a place where worship was central and sacred things were a daily reality. Yet the Bible says they did not know the Lord. That is not just a problem of proximity. It is a problem of priority.
You can be surrounded by godly things and never become godly. You can be in the building and still miss the blessing. And if you lead others in any way, that should make you pause. Because influence is not about where you are seen, it is about who you are shaping.
Eli was a man of influence. He was respected in public, but the breakdown happened in private. His sons knew the routines of ministry, but they never saw the reality of knowing God. That is a challenge to every person in a position of leadership. Whether you lead in your family, your team, your classroom, or your workplace, your influence carries weight.
Do not be so busy being successful that you forget to be spiritual. Do not be so consumed with building something that you forget to build up someone. God has not called you to simply provide opportunities, He has called you to pass on values.
The most important ministry you will ever have is not on a stage or behind a title. It is the influence you carry with the people closest to you. Those who watch how you live more than they hear what you say.
You do not need to be perfect. But you do need to be present. You need to be consistent. You need to be someone who puts God first in a way that others can see and follow.
If the people closest to you are learning about God from your life, what are you teaching them? Are they seeing someone who knows the language of faith but lacks the life of faith, or are they seeing someone whose heart is truly after God? Your influence is not about what you say. It is about what you show. Show them how to honor God.
