Stop Worrying and Start Living
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." - Philippians 4:6
Dale Carnegie, the famous writer and lecturer from the early 1900s, struggled with worry and anxiety just like many of us do today. He would panic whenever a storm arose or thunder echoed in the sky. His tendency to fixate on future possibilities became so overwhelming that it made him physically ill. He couldn’t focus, be effective, or enjoy life.
To address his own struggles and help others, Carnegie wrote How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. In it, he revealed that 99% of the things he worried about never happened, making his anxiety unjustified and unnecessary.
Today, millions of people around the world battle with similar anxieties. We, like Carnegie, find ourselves consumed with what-ifs and worst-case scenarios. The World Health Organization reports that over 300 million people worldwide suffer from anxiety, and perhaps you can relate to that feeling of worry that paralyzes you, making it hard to enjoy the present because your mind is locked on the unknown future.
Anxiety is not only harmful, but it's also deceptive. Instead of solving tomorrow’s problems, it steals today’s joy. It convinces us that we must prepare for every possible outcome, but in reality, much of what we worry about never comes to pass. The mental and emotional energy we spend worrying does nothing to change the future, it only diminishes our capacity to live fully in the present.
The Bible encourages us to give our worries to God and trust in His provision. In Philippians 4:6, we’re told not to be anxious about anything, but to pray and present our requests to God with thanksgiving. This doesn’t mean life will be without challenges, but it reminds us that we don’t have to face those challenges alone. God’s peace is available to us when we stop worrying about tomorrow and start living in His presence today.
If anxiety is weighing you down, take a moment to reflect. How many of the things you’ve worried about have actually happened? How much of your peace have you sacrificed to fear? You don’t have to carry the burden of the unknown by yourself. Let go of those anxieties, give them to God, and trust that He holds your future in His hands. There is freedom in surrendering your worries and allowing God to fill your heart with peace.
